JAKARTA, 11 March 2014 - H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN received a courtesy call from H.E. Murod Askarov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 11 March 2014 at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Secretary-General Minh welcomed the interest expressed by Uzbekistan in enhancing relationship and cooperation with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States and looked forward to closer collaboration and cooperation with Uzbekistan, including through region-to-region cooperation frameworks under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) frameworks, of which Uzbekistan is a member. He also stated that there are potentials and opportunities for ASEAN and Uzbekistan to explore further cooperation. He said that ASEAN welcomes the accreditation of the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to ASEAN. Further, he briefed H.E. Askarov on the achievements in the ASEAN Community building and the development of ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision.
H.E. Murod Askarov expressed his appreciation to Secretary-General Minh for the opportunity to meet and discuss ways and means for Uzbekistan to boost its relations with ASEAN. He stated that Uzbekistan would seek to enhance cooperation with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States, particularly in trade, investment, finance and tourism. Given the robust economies of ASEAN Member States and the potentials on both sides, the current two-way trade volume between Uzbekistan and ASEAN remained relatively low. He expressed Uzbekistan’s desire to pursue a form of partnership with ASEAN and invited Secretary-General Minh to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan at a convenient opportunity.
Secretary-General Minh and H.E. Murod Askarov also exchanged views on a number of current regional and international issues.
Jakarta, 11 March 2014, The Vice Minister of Trade, of Indonesia H.E. Mr. Bayu Krisnamurthi, accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to Uzbekistan H.E. Mr M.Asruchin, the Economic Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy in Uzbekistan Priadji Soelaiman, the Director of South and Central Asia of Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Listyowati and the Director of Export and Import Facilitates,Mr. Nusa Eka, received a courtesy call from the Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, H.E. Mr. Murad Askarov at the Ministry of Trade Office on Tuesday.
On December 22, 2014, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan it was held a meeting with a delegation of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, headed by the Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon.
It was discussed topical aspects of bilateral relations based on mutual cooperation and consideration for the interests of each other.
The Indonesian side shared their impressions from the visit to Uzbekistan, during which members of the parliamentary delegation visited a number of areas as international observers at the December 21 elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis and local councils of people's deputies and they highly evaluated the organization of the election campaign. It was emphasized that the elections were held on the basis of international principles and with the active participation of voters.
During the exchange of views on the international agenda sides confirmed their interest in the development of cooperation within the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Cooperation Dialogue in Asia and other structures.
